To my President, Barack Obama.





We are categorized as terrorists, gangbangers, school shooters, and psychotic miscreants for our passion and past-time. Pundits claim our extremely expensive weapons are found on the streets in the hands of children and in the classrooms of our nation's heartland. You have spoken, and you suggest that these guns are best left on foreign battlefields.

My weapon has never harmed a creature that draws breath. My intents by owning this weapon are of mechanical study, historical collection, and nonviolent weekend enjoyment. While I am prepared to defend my home from enemies foreign and domestic, my gun ownership exists in my heart for means of peace.

My gun is a great source of pride, proof that our nation entrusts its citizens with the right to the power of decision- as much as our free voices, our free arms tell the world that we are truly independent. Though I am horrified, insulted, and embarrassed by those criminals who would use their Amendment Right for violence and hatred, I stand fast by my love for the gun in hopes that both sides of this argument may find a solution that will benefit our safety without stripping us of our freedoms.

I am an American assault rifle owner, and there are hundreds of thousands like me across the country. Together, we wonder what will become of the Second Amendment, a right designed to protect those who bear military arms in protection of country and home, not those who hunt deer.

As you step into office, I ask only that the subject of domestic violence be studied carefully and with education and an open mind. Then, I hope, we can begin to formulate reasons why this anger and maliciousness exists in America to begin with, and what tools will truly end the cycle of violence. I have a feeling that while certain gun control measures can absolutely help the flow of weapons to the streets, banning 19-shot magazines, barrel shrouds, and conspicuous pistol grips will do little to stem the unrest in our cities and suburbs.

I am hopeful that this administration will do their best to find out what will help, and how best to implement the change.
